Carol L. Bosco has been named the Dean of the School of Health Sciences at Hudson Valley Community College.

Bosco has served as the department chairperson of the Nursing Department at Hudson Valley since 2007 and was an adjunct faculty member at the college since 2002. She was previously on the faculty of Russell Sage College, Maria College and Excelsior College, and worked as nursing operations manager for Saint Peter's Hospital. She also worked in Albany Medical Center, Saint Clare's Hospital in Denville, N.J. and McLaren Hospital in Flint, Mich.

Bosco has previously served as a member of the Council of Associate Degree Nursing in New York State (CADN) and as a board member, treasurer and vice president of the District 9 Nurses Association. Currently, she serves as an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) peer evaluator and is a member of the ACEN evaluation review panel.

During her eight years as the Nursing Department chair at Hudson Valley, Bosco instituted essential academic skills testing for potential nursing students, started a summer boot camp to prepare students in the program for upcoming study in the fall, and increased the program’s retention rate to nearly 90 percent. Her outreach efforts have resulted in programs coordinated with local high schools and the community at large, and she has been instrumental in the addition of new degree and certificate programs within the School of Health Sciences, a trend she plans to continue in her role as dean.

“Congratulations to Carol Bosco on her new role as Dean of the School of Health Sciences. Carol has already made so many wonderful contributions to the college community through her work in the department, and we are excited to welcome her into this new position. We’re confident that she will continue to demonstrate her dedication and commitment to the college and her field, and we look forward to the continued success of the Health Sciences programs under her leadership,” said Drew Matonak, president of Hudson Valley Community College.

Bosco received her associate degree in nursing from Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan. She received both a bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Russell Sage College, and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Arizona in 2007. She resides in Wynantskill with her husband, Samuel, and their pets. Bosco is a strong animal advocate; she currently sits on the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society's advisory board and supports “Out of the Pits,” as well as other animal rescue organizations.

The School of Health Sciences houses 13 academic programs at the college, including degree and certificate programs in Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, Polysomnography, Respiratory Care, Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Echocardiography, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, Bereavement Studies, and Mortuary Science. The School of Health Sciences graduated 262 students in 2016, accounting for 13.6 percent of the college’s total graduates.

Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 80 associate degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of nearly 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
